Walkmill Campsite

Friday 5th May 2023

We had a lazy morning at Dunstan, the showers were good, and not busy despite one of the blocks being out-of-order.

It was a misty start to the day, and it had rained a little bit overnight.

Finally the wind died down, for the first time in a few days, and it was nice.

Gayle won a chess game!

Our most difficult decision was where to go first thing?

Embleton farm shop or Craster piper’s pitch

Not sure how we’d missed the farm shop in our brief sojourn there on Wednesday afternoon, and it had good reviews.

Alternatively, the “piper’s pitch” which sounded like it had great breakfast options, but parking the van might’ve been a bit more work.

So, we opted for Embleton farm shop, great selection of food, pies, quiches, scones, and they had great looking baguettes.

We bought some cheese and wild garlic scones, along with a cheese and bacon quiche and an amazing looking sausage roll.

Headed to next place via Alnwick, to go back to Turnbulls, it was pretty busy (this was Friday lunchtime), and so we really struggled to get parked up with the van.

M&S and Sainsbury’s rounded out our shopping before heading to Walkmill.

We arrived at Walkmill pretty early, grass pitch, freshly cut grass, and a bit of light rain meant that we were traipsing grass clumps into the van, made a note to get hard plastic tiles for stepping on.

Pitched up, and we only had to put the levelling blocks under one side of the van, Dunstan was definitely a learning experience.

We had lunch, the quiche was the wrong one, turned out to be the “coronation recipe” instead, it was surprisingly nice, the broad beans were great, but the sausage roll was great, crumbly sausage meat, not too dense, definitely worth it.

It was a beautiful afternoon, and we rested up reading in the van.

Dinner, nacho chicken from Turnbulls! Mash and sweetcorn, fantastic! Accompanied by a bottle of Alnwick cider for Gayle, and a nice beer for me!

We settled down to watch an old episode of Taggart, and fell asleep!
