Sunday 30th April 2023
We were up early, ready to head to Lindisfarne.
Breakfast was the “singing hinny” from yesterday toasted with butter, it was like a fruity soda scone, really tasty, I appreciated the fruitiness.
We had planned to go to Lindisfarne and the tide times were pretty good, but it was pretty rainy at the time we had to leave, and we knew we’d need to do a fair bit of walking around the island, so…tough decision, but we opted to go on Monday.
Yesterday I had picked up an amazing Mars Bar cake at The Mule on Rouge in Berwick, chewy and with a caramel and chocolate top, definitely worth going there, Gayle had chosen a white chocolate and raspberry tart, it was very good too.
Gayle and I spent the morning playing chess, I had brought it as the “ultimate rainy day in the van game” and so it proved, neither of us had played for a long time, and made a lot of mistakes, but it was fun.
The rain and wind cleared briefly around 3:30pm and so we set off for a walk, down towards the “Lindisfarne Inn” which we’d passed as we turned towards the site, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk, and there are pavements all the way down.
After a beer (Tyne Blonde) and cider (Aspall), we ordered Sunday Lunch, it was very tasty, but…they had run out of Yorkshire puddings!
The walk back from the pub was very muggy after the rain, we finished our day with a cuppa and rewatching District 9.
The sun set from Beale was great, looking out across the yellow rapeseed fields and water.
