Berwick Seaview Club Campsite

Friday 28th April 2023

It took us about 2 hours 15 minutes to drive from Cambuslang to Berwick upon Tweed, along the M8 and then the A1.

For such a “major road” the A1 is surprisingly not a motorway, and after you leave Edinburgh, it is actually a pretty nice drive, passing along the coast at points and through some nice little towns.

We arrived early evening, and the site was pretty busy, after driving around, it looked like pitch 50 was our best bet, the site is pretty sloping towards the sea, and yes, we got a sea view.

As usual we had to get our levelling wedges out, and for the first time, they didn’t cut it, the natural slope from back-to-front of our van, coupled with the sloping of the pitch meant that our test (does the door stay open?) didn’t pass, but the fridge worked, and, spoiler, we slept fine.

After getting the van “level” and the electricity hooked up, we set off for a wander into Berwick via Spittal, along the water front, the tide was out, which meant that the river looked almost static.

We crossed the old bridge into the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, we were pretty hungry at this point, so wandered along looking for food and a drink and after a few interesting places that looked pretty busy, we realised that for Gayle, a holiday starts with a tuna pizza, and the first place we saw this was in Limoncello on Hide Hill, it was a bit noisy, but we got a table, and the pizza was great, and my chicken was very nice.

Bottle of wine, starters, mains, and dessert for around £60, probably the cheapest meal we’ve had in while, and it was pretty good overall.

We wandered back over the bridge, along Dock Road into Spittal and back to the site, made up the bed and passed out after reading for a bit, apparently Gayle’s plan was for just the 8 nights, leaving home on Saturday, but she squeezed this little bonus in, and it was worth it, we’d come back to Berwick and explore a bit more.
