We got up early and had a quick breakfast and set off into Berwick.
It was a cold and grey morning, but it’s an easy walk from the site down through Spittal and across the river on the “Old Bridge” into the town.
We initially set off in search of the Market, but when we got into town, we discovered that it was The Riding of the Bounds that day, and the town centre was being setup for this.
Found a couple of nice butchers and a bakery, picked up a tasty looking meat and potato pasty, and a cheese and onion slice along with a local delicacy, a “singing hinny”.
Wandering around the town, we picked up a book on the geography of the Northumbrian coast which looked interesting, and of course a fridge magnet from Berwick.
We had to be off site by 12pm, so we wandered back over and packed up the van and parked up in the excellent car park in Spittal and went for a wander there.
We had spotted a few of the images from the Lowry Trail and there’s also a Nature trail which we spotted some of the info boards for.
We decided to get a move onto our next site, but stopped off at Marshall’s Cafe which was not far down the road, I had their amazing breakfast bagel…fantastic, and Gayle was very happy with her tuna-cheese toastie, definitely recommended.
A short drive down the coast, and we arrived at the Barn at Beal, easily found our pitch (on a concrete hard-standing), and got setup.
The site is just off the road to the start of the causeway for Lindisfarne, and affords great views out over the surrounding coast, including over to the island.
Gayle had booked a table here for dinner, and it was very good, Gayle had the scallops and a delicious chicken, and I had goats cheese and pork belly, very tasty with a cheese board for after…very tasty meal, they even had a beer that I’ve not seen for a long time, Caffreys!
After dinner we rolled down the hill back to our van, made up the bed and crashed.
