Amble

Saturday 6th May 2023

We set off with our walking kit on, heading initially for Warkworth, it’s a nice walk out of the campsite, we walked down the road, and we came to something I’ve never seen before, a “ford”, a shallow spot of the river for vehicles to cross, we crossed on the pedestrian bridge, and to get there we had to walk alongside the river for a bit, the smell of the wild garlic was pretty impressive.

We easily made it to Warkworth, the castle is impressive, and Warkworth is a nice wee town, but Gayle had a plan, so we headed down along the river to Amble, you can easily see why the castle was built there, it dominates the views down to the coast.

Upon arrival at Amble, we bought a bag o’ fresh doughnuts, and then went for a wander around Amble, it’s a really beautiful wee town, they have a Harbour village with little shops in huts, in the sunshine, it was warm and windy, but really nice.

We walked as far as the “paddler’s park”, and had a look at the history trail, and there was a quayside market.

It was now about 2pm, so we opted to wander back to the site.

Stopped off in Warkworth, and went to the Sun Inn, dirty fries and chicken strips, with a Aspalls Cider was lunch, the coronation was on the TV, but nobody seemed particularly enraptured, I guess if you were super keen you’d be at home.

Definitely worth stopping in the Sun Inn, nicely friendly and good food.

Back to the site for dinner, and a spot of TV before passing out.
