Mull - Fidden Farm

Wednesday 7th May - Day 6

We were up and off to Fidden. We stopped at Glen Forsa on the way which was more of a cafe than a farm shop, so we didn’t spend long there before getting back on the road. The majority of the road to Fidden was single track but there were plenty of passing passes with mostly decent visibility so no problem. We stopped in at the Port nan Gael shop and got some supplies then continued on to Fidden.

There are no bookings at Fidden Farm, instead you simply turn up and pick a suitable pitch. We were lucky and got a pitch right in front of the beach in a truly idyllic location … absolutely stunning!! We arrived in time for lunch, about 1pm, and made ciabatta toasties with ham & cheese and then sat outside and relaxed & enjoyed the views.

After some more relaxing, we wandered down to Fionnphort and had a couple of Thistly Cross ciders outside at the Keel Row. By 6pm we were feeling hungry and enquired if there was a table for dinner & luckily there was.

I opted for steak pie, chips & veg with gravy and a peach Melba crumble, and Kevin had the special pork belly and a clootie dumpling with ice cream. The food was delicious.

Following dinner, we walked back to the van and sat out to watch the sunset.

Thursday 8th May - Day 7

We had porridge for breakfast and decided to have lazy day due to how hot & sunny it was - the initial plan had been to walk to Fionnphort and get the ferry over to Iona but there isn’t much cover on the island and we didn’t want to be out in the sun too much so, instead, we walked along the beach and caught up with some You Tube videos.

As the weather was so nice, we put up the pop-top and opened the mesh panel at the front to get a breeze into the van to cool it down. We also put up our inflatable windbreak, which was nice & easy once we remembered to close the second vent! The windbreak was nice & sturdy and certainly reduced the wind but full sun was still beating down and it didn’t help with that.

We walked into Fionnphort to get soft drinks and crisps at the shop (limited selection) and tried to get a table at Keel Row but there wasn’t one available until 8.15pm so we just had a drink and then wandered back to site.

We caught up with our van neighbours over drinks & snacks and then we had an easy dinner of ritz crackers with cheese & charcuterie for dinner with some wine.

We sat out to enjoy the sunset again and then headed off to sleep.
