Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site

Friday March 21st 2025

Off again for another adventure, this time heading to Drummohr Campsite, which is one of our favourite campsites due to its location on the East Lothian coast - this is our third visit.

It was an easy drive along the M8 - as always a bit busy at the A720 (Edinburgh Bypass) but before long we were heading through Musselburgh and the campsite is just a bit further along the road.

We popped into Tesco in Musselburgh to grab something for dinner and dessert and some fruit for breakfast.

We arrived on site while it was still daylight and decided to get the awning up but for some reason we really struggled to get it done as easily as on our last trip - probably because we were trying to do it ‘right’ this time rather than just winging it like the previous time…this time we were aiming higher, and things seemed a lot tougher.

Kevin had bought some Peggy Pegs to use but neither of us were particularly impressed with them and ended up mostly using our other normal pegs for securing down the awning.

Once everything was set up we relaxed for a bit and then Kevin cooked a very tasty dinner on the Cadac - chicken stir fry and sweetcorn rice followed by a Bonne Maman salted caramel pot for dessert.

We sat out ’til 8:30pm, warming ourselves up with a hot chocolate but headed in not long after as it had got a bit chilly.

We watched the first episode of a show called Devs, and I was getting major deja-vu throughout and released that we had already watched this episode but Kevin had no memory of it all! That probably doesn’t bode well for us watching more!

Saturday March 22nd 2025

It rained heavily overnight, but the awning held up well and it was only the skirt of the awning (where it had gotten blown to the outside) that had some rain puddles.

Once we were both showered and organised, we had a nice light breakfast of fruit and yoghurt and then we pulled on our walking shoes and set off into a grey East Lothian day.

We made our way down to the coast, a 10 minute walk or so, and then got onto the John Muir Way heading towards Musselburgh - the first time we were here this section was closed off so it was nice to get a chance to now walk along it and not have to walk along the busy, noisy, main road instead.

As we walked along, we spent some time using the drone, and Kevin enjoyed snapping images and videos of the coast, but because it was so dull and overcast the sky was a mostly uniform grey colour so the footage wasn’t looking as good as it would on a sunny, bright, day.

We continued to walk around Musselborough and enjoyed a short seat on the beach - it was lovely walking weather, made better by the fact there was no rain!

After a couple of hours we decided to hunt out some food and found a lovely wee cafe on the Main Street, Miro’s, where we enjoyed “triple toasties” - ham and cheese for Kevin and my usual of tuna melt - they were very, very, good and the toast had a lovely buttery flavour from the ghee that they used to toast them.

Once we had dealt with our hunger, we set off again and the weather had now picked up and the sun was out. There was a deli further along the road that we wanted to stop into, Mintfig, and after checking out all the goodies they had we picked up a crème egg brownie, a slice of rocky road and a couple of almond croissants.

On the way back to the campsite we wandered along Pinkie Road to Pinkie Farm Convenience Store and picked up some sweets, ignoring all the other tempting things, and headed back to the site.

We spent some time relaxing in the awning, enjoying the afternoon warmth, and whilst Kevin dozed for a bit, I caught up with some reading.

For “dinner” we had a snack of mini poppadoms and mango chutney, as neither of us were particularly hungry, while we watched an old 1985 film “Runaway” with Tom Selleck. It was actually pretty good, better than we expected, and while it was a bit dated technologically, the premise of the story is possibly more relevant now than it was then.

Sunday March 23rd 2025

We had a bit of a lie-in and got up to a windy Sunday morning and we could see that it had rained heavily overnight.

For breakfast, we enjoyed the almond croissants we had picked up the previous day - very tasty!

We started to tidy up and the first thing to do was take down the awning which was easy enough and after a bit of effort we were able to get it rolled back up and back in the bag. Kevin then attempted to roll in the awning but as we tried to fold away the awning legs we couldn’t get them to fit .. after a bit of googling we realised that the mechanism for doing this was different than with our previous van and we followed the correct steps and finally managed to get them stowed away … we must have looked like newbies and not folk who have already been doing this for a few years!

All good, now to roll it back in and …disaster … it wouldn’t roll in all the way - we took it out and in a few times but each time it didn’t quite fit back into the housing on one side. We’re not quite sure what happened, but we did leave the kador strip out a a bit far on that side when we set up the awning to make it easier to open & close the sliding door so presumably it got slightly bent of track by that…it’s not too bad and is only ‘off’ by a small bit, but we’ll need to monitor it incase we need to get it fixed in the future.

We headed home via Whitmuir Farm Shop in Lamancha, which was a great wee find. We popped into the cafe for some lunch - the menu description was a sandwich, and the price seemed very high for just a sandwich, but what came was very substantial with layers of flavour - Kevin enjoyed a Philly Cheese Steak, and thought the sesame mayo with it was amazing, and I had a tasty Coronation Chicken - very impressive!

We continued our drive home via Carluke and, as the weather picked up over the afternoon, it was a nice trip home.
