We were up quite late, I jumped in for a shower and after getting ready, we headed out to the village shop, ostensibly to get something for breakfast and while they had a lot of nice things, nothing we quite fancied for breakfast.
We ended up in Jaspers, which I’d spotted the day before, and I had their hashbrowns with chilli jam and a fried egg, very, very nice breakfast.
Gayle had toast and scrambled egg with black pudding, which was nice, but the black pudding was a bit bland.
It was a nice bright morning, so we opted to walk into Keswick, through Portinscale and it’s a pretty easy walk, we continued on through Fitz Park down towards the town centre, and popped round to one of the mouse trail locations from yesterday, the “Makers Mill” which backs onto the river.
After that, we spotted that the Keswick Brewery was advertising brewery tours, so…we managed to secure a couple of spots for the 1pm tour.
We’ve done a number of brewery tours since we started our campervan travels, and while Gayle isn’t a beer drinker, she does her best!
It’s a very small brewery, maybe the smallest we’ve been in, but it was still pretty interesting, I enjoy the scent of the malted barley and the hops, and they had some different hops that I’ve never smelled before.
Oh, and I finally learned the difference between keg and cask ale!
We went to their tap room for the obligatory tasting, which was a small flight of three beers, we had started with a little taste of Keswick Gold which I’ve had before, and I really like, the other three were quite different.
I liked the “Fox Dark”, not a stout but definitely a dark roasted beer, very nice.
We sat drinking more beer (Gayle had cider) until around half past four in the afternoon at which point we wandered to get something to eat, and found our way into Lakeland Spice for a very nice curry.
After that, we wandered to Booths to pick up some bits and pieces before heading back to the van, the next bus wasn’t for almost an hour, so we walked the return journey in the dark, it wasn’t too bad at all.
A light snack for dinner, and catching up on some old TV until bed time.
