We had a light breakfast of pastries and tea, and we got up and headed off into Keswick by bus.
It was a misty morning, with intermittent light rain so we we opted to wander around Keswick and down to Derwentwater.
Late morning, we had a coffee and pastry in the Cornish bakery, just a nice as they were in Whitby.
We wandered back into town, where they were setting up the market and stage for the Xmas light switch on.
Some favourite places have closed since we were last here in December last year, but new places have opened.
We followed the Mountain Rescue team’s Mouse trail and rewalked familiar paths and some new ones, still no 4g or 5g on my phone, which isn’t so unusual in Keswick, but no signal at all is a bit unusual, and I took advantage of some free wifi to check the O2 status checker, which indicated that there was indeed a fault with a local transmitter and they were working on it.
We had a late lunch in The Round - their burger menu is well regarded and there, was a small queue to get in at 3pm when it opened.
We opted to split a “Rostithwaite” and a “Katsu Bells” with cheese and bacon loaded fries.
Great good, very good prices too, well worth a visit.
After that, we finished the mouse trail just in time for the start of the pre-lights switch on festivities, a kids choir in Packhorse court, it was fun if a bit chaotic at times, but they seemeed to be enjoying it.
After those lights, we wandered round to the main square (just at the Moot hall), where there was a band covering some country and christmas hits, they were pretty good.
Just after 7pm, the main Keswick lights were turned on, Keswick is definitely even prettier at this time of year with the lights on.
There are a limited number of buses and they are an hour apart, so we opted to catch the next bus back to the site, it was pretty packed, but that was the end of a long day out in Keswick.
