We were up quite late, and it wasn’t particularly cold in the van. We had a tasty breakfast with honey yoghurt and granola.
In the daylight the site is nice, it was surprisingly busy for the end of season.
The facilities were good, maybe a little dated, but we have been to some amazing sites this year, and they are definitely good.
We set off towards Balmains Farm shop, it’s a nice easy walk along the A91, along the pavement.
The shop was great, we bought a range of things, including a sausage roll and cheese twist.
We dropped our haul of shopping off at the van on our way past and headed off along the A91 into Stirling.
Autumn is in full swing in Stirlingshire, and the trees were beautifully coloured in yellows, oranges, browns and reds.
We walked past the Wallace Monument, into Causewayhead and we headed towards Stirling, the weather was bright, but we knew that it was going to get rainy and wet later.
I popped into the Co-Op on Causewayhead Road and picked up a couple of Stephen’s bakery items (we passed their shop, but it was very busy), I had a lovely millionaire’s doughnut, and Gayle had a hallowe’en fancy.
We continued down as far as Stirling Old Bridge, and stood marvelling at the eddies created as the River Forth passes under the bridge.
We could’ve continued on into Stirling, but we knew we had lunch leftovers from our meal on Friday back in the van and didn’t want it to go to waste, so we headed back.
We popped into the Wallace Bar which is just down from the monument and had a couple of pints each along with what Gayle dubbed a bar-picnic - peanuts, scampi fries and bacon fries…
Definitely worth popping into, and you’ll hear them tell you that the bar predates the monument.
Refuelled, we headed back to the site and had a late lunch, the weather turned shortly after that and it rained pretty heavily into early evening.
We had planned a dinner, but ended up having our cheese twist and sausage roll from the farm shop instead, very nice.
