Saturday 19th October 2024
On Thursday I looked at the weather and noticed that it was expected to be clear on Saturday evening, and Gayle had wanted to go to the Twice Brewed Stargazing event for some time.
So a quick phone call and had two spots booked and they booked in our van to stay overnight.
We were up early on a Saturday morning and headed off to AdventureLV in Tebay to see a possible new van.
They were really helpful and we came away with a small shortlist of options.
We drove to Kendal but couldn’t get parked in the town and so we ended up driving to an out-of-town Sainsburys and picking up some bits for lunch.
We had dinner booked at Twice Brewed Inn up at Hadrian’s Wall, we’ve been before, but this time it was for their Stargazing event.
Dinner was great…I had very nice potato skins for a starter, and The Big Piggy burger which was very tasty, the wrapped sausage on top was especially good.
Gayle opted for the Twice Brewed Cheese Soufflé and Sausage and Mash, I got a taste of the soufflé and it was very nice.
After dinner, we went back to the van (we were parked in the carpark) and made up the bed so that we could jump in when we got back.
This is the first night we were “off-grid” but I had connected up the van and charged the battery, and we had nearly a full tank of LPG.
The Stargazing event was great, it was well organised, with the leader (Wil) and his assistants setting up telescopes to point at the things we were looking at, and we just had to peer into the viewfinder and adjust the focus (if necessary).
We got to see a lot of different things, the highlight for me was the Andromeda galaxy which was amazing to see.
