Windy Culzean Castle

Saturday 12th October 2024

I slept ‘til after 6am and we were up at 8am, a light breakfast of crumpets with marmite and cheese toasted in the air fryer, very tasty.

We headed off towards Culzean castle, out the side other from the site and followed the tree line down to the farm shop.

It was a muddy walk but we passed through the castle down to the beach and wandered along a little bit of the Ayrshire coast path.

Rain warnings prompted us to head back to the home kitchen for lunch and it was great.

Gayle chose the brown bloomer with cheddar cheese and chutney and a delicious pumpkin and tomato soup.

I opted for the same brown bloomer with Ayrshire ham and cheese and soup, with a side of loaded fries between us.

The restaurant had a sign that they were closing at 3pm due to high wind warnings.

Again weather warnings prompted us to head back to the van.

As we wandered back to the site, we passed a caravan awning that had clearly buckled under the winds and was flapping around.

We got back just in time, seconds before very heavy rain came on, the afternoon was high winds and rain and the caravan with the damaged awning left just after 5pm.

On the camping area, a large tent was braving the winds, but seemed to hold on.

We had breakfast for dinner mostly cooked in the air fryer.

Sausage, black pudding, potato croquettes and fried eggs, only the eggs were cooked in a pan.

Very nice and easy enough with the air fryer, definitely better than the gas oven in the van.

We watched an episode of an old 80s sci-fi series Starcops which is entertaining enough.

It was a very noisy night due to the winds and we had to pop out and secure the screen cover and our black storage box which were both blowing around.
