Malton Treasure Trail

Monday 9th September 2024

I got up with a really sore back and had to take some ibuprofen in the hopes of easing it.

We hiked up to Castle Howard to get bus into Malton, it’s an ok walk, because there are quite big verges and not a lot of through traffic.

But, the bus arrived minus a wing mirror which it lost coming through the arch coming into Castle Howard.

It was unclear when or if it might depart, and the next bus was over 2 hours later so we walked back to the site and packed up and drove the van into dreary Malton, we got parked up in Wentworth St car park which has some great big spaces.

We set off on a Treasure Trail which guided us around Malton, finding clues and scoring off locations.

For lunch we popped into The Hidden Monkey. I had a great Yorkshire plate, while Gayle opted for tuna mayo on toasted ciabatta which was “ok”.

By this time, the sun was out, and it brightened up the town and became really pleasant.

Our Treasure Trail took us to Old Malton along the river walk (which you can’t really see much of the river from).

We wrapped up the Treasure Trail in Old Malton, it was really enjoyable, and a great way to see the town, we likely wouldn’t have made it as far as Old Malton if not for the clues.

On our way back to the site, we popped into Morrisons where I had to pick up an Amazon delivery.

On arrival, we popped into the on-site shop and picked up lager and cider, it is pretty well stocked and we had ice lollies too.

The weather was a nice opportunity to sit reading with a cold lager (or cider) in the later afternoon sun.

For dinner, we had Simply Cook wild mushroom penne, cooked and eaten outside but by this time it was a bit chilly, really nice flavours, a great van meal and easily recommendable.

Dessert was a really nice raspberry panna cotta.

Again, our on-board 4g was struggling, so we spent the evening reading books and catching up on the most recent Private Eye.
