Sunday 8th September 2024
Up early because we had a fairly long drive east to Castle Howard, the weather was dry, but it was clearly changing for the worse.
We headed off around 10am and popped into Booths in Kirkby Lonsdale and then Country Harvest just outside Thornbrook Barn where we spent three nights in June, good food acquired we set off on the long drive.
It started raining heavily and it was a bit of a slog, not helped by Google maps sending us down a road it knew was closed (even asked us to confirm it was still closed) and we had a five mile detour to get back on the right track.
We arrived at Castle Howard around 1:30pm and pitched up. By this time it was raining again so we had lunch in the van.
Eventually the skies cleared and we popped out to take some photos in the dying light of the day on the lake, it was a warm evening.
Dinner was chicken kievs and parmesan fries from Booths, very tasty, finished off with lemon bakewell tarts.
Again, we had poor internet via our 4g router, so…we contented ourselves with some TV from Van TV.
