Rainy day in Elie

Sunday 25th August 2024

We were up quite late, after 9am, and had our favourite breakfast of yoghurt and granola.

It was very windy and rainy overnight and this was to set the tone for the day.

We lay reading most of the morning but eventually we had to get out, so we pulled on our walking gear and headed down to the beach and wandered around Ruddon’s Point again.

Leven was clearly visible, and the distant shores of East Lothian were just visible through the sunshine and rain.

My wee book of “Fife and Angus Geology” has some interesting notes on Kincraig Neck and the coast is littered with basalt forms.

There’s a sense of isolation, especially in the weather, we barely spotted anybody despite never being more than a kilometre from the campsite.

The caravans are well hidden behind the extensive dunes.

Back through the forest a little, but at a fork we opted to return to the site, if the weather had been nicer we’d have walked to Elie along a map that was available just outside the reception.

The weather had definitely turned for the worse and as we sat in the cafe we could see the heavy rain and wind, the toasties were very nice.

We hid out from the weather again in the afternoon, catching up on some reading until it was time to head out for dinner.

I had the chicken tenders as a starter, nice and crispy and the sweet chili sauce was quite spicy, and the chicken and haggis stack for dinner.

Gayle had soup, and a big bowl of the pasta of the week (which was chicken penne arribiata), the sauce was very nice but the pasta was overdone.

I had to help out, but it wasn’t particularly enjoyable.

I had a very nice strawberries and ice-cream with meringue for a dessert, local Pittenweem strawberries too!

Overall it was a nice enough meal, pretty cheap too.

We returned to the van and watched some TV until bed-time.
