We were up fairly early, after a tasty breakfast of strawberries and pancakes and yoghurt outside, we packed up and headed for the Fife Coastal Path.
Gayle packed a tasty picnic with ham rolls and maple-bacon quiche.
We headed out of the site, through the car park, and onto the golf course, following along the path running parallel to the beach.
We walked along the sandy beach, with very few other folks on the sand, until we got to Lower Largo, lots of jelly fish and other beach detritus.
We wandered through the town, this was the end of a week long arts festival in the town, the studios looked nice, but we headed back on to the beach.
We tracked along the beach as far as Ruddons Point and sat under the trees on a bench and had lunch, after that we followed the Coastal Path through Elie Holiday Park (which we’re heading to in late August), skirting Shell Bay, we followed the path as it climbs Kincraig Hill, while not particularly high, it’s pretty steep on the way down the other side towards Earlsferry Golf course.
However you are rewarded by the beach, with beautifully clear water, and great views over towards Elie harbour it was hard to believe the water was on the coast of Scotland at this point.
We fancied a paddle in the water, but there were a lot of moon jellyfish lying on the sand which made us a bit nervous about standing on them as they have a mild sting…probably fine, but not worth risking it as the waterline was littered with them.
We also spotted some blue jellyfish.
We pressed on along Earlsferry High Street as it became Elie and it’s a lovely little town, back on to the beach, where there was a wedding being setup, a lone piper playing, and guests arriving right onto the beach in their finest.
We arrived into Elie, and headed for the Ship Inn, the outdoor area was mobbed so we popped into the main pub nice pint of Cider and Lager and some crisps and we felt a bit refreshed, the sun had come out fully during our walk.
I checked out the bus times back to Leven and there was one in twenty minutes so we wandered back up to the bus stop. We could’ve stayed longer, but the Blacketyide Farm Shop was closing at 5pm and we didn’t want to miss it (it’s closed Sundays).
The bus was late, but we got back in time to get into shop, just as it started raining.
We picked up a whole load of bits and pieces, a beef stir-fry, strawberries, yoghurt, a couple of eve’s puddings with custard, and some drinks and biscuits.
The site is just 5 minutes walk from the shop.
We were exhausted after our walk, so we rested up. It was very muggy, but the rain meant that we struggled to keep the vents open so the fan was deployed.
Dinner was the tasty stir-fry, followed up by the eve’s puddings which we had cold, and honestly they were great, the apple was perfectly cooked, and the custard helped cool us down.
It rained off and on most of the evening, and we were in bed by 9:30pm, and asleep not long after.
