Haverigg Beach

Saturday 15th June 2024

Yeah, Scotland took a bit of a kicking at the football, dang.

Some new neighbours, caravan and campers arrived late Friday night, so the site was pretty full from what we could see.

The on-site facilities are great, individual shower rooms with toilets and plenty of space, easy to keep clothes dry.

We were up early, yoghurt and granola for a good healthy breakfast.

The weather outlook wasn’t good, it was windy and rainy, but due to clear later.

We had a mid morning tea cake (from the farm shop) with choc hazelnut.

By lunchtime, the weather hadn’t picked up significantly, so we had cheese and ham sandwiches with caramelised onion.

While we had music, and could read and relax in the van, we can definitely see the advantage of an awning, a bit more space, and some fresh air.

We finally got out for a walk at about 3:30 and went for a stroll along the deserted beach.

Haverigg beach is long, goes out for a long distance to the actual sea, and there was only a couple of other folks wandering along the sand.

I spotted the Isle of Man off in the distance, which we’d seen from our recent trip to Auchenlary.

We went back to the farm shop, more tasty baked goods, more oaties.

Passing through Haverigg, we opted to pop into the Harbour Hotel for dinner.

I had a sausage with egg and chips, Gayle had lasagne, both very nice.

We wandered back to the site in the late evening sun.

The site was pretty busy, and there was a fair bit of smoke from the fire pits and BBQs, there was a nice atmosphere and it’s nice to see families camping on sites together.

Fears that it’d be noisy ’til late went unfounded as it quietened down around 10pm, and we passed out,
