Onto Yorkshire

Monday 10th June 2024

We were up fairly early, it rained heavily overnight for a bit, and it was breezy and intermittently cloudy and bright sunshine, as it has been.

We had toasted crumpets and jam, butter and hazelnut spread for breakfast, using up some bits we had in the van.

We headed off not long after 10am, and headed towards Kendal to view a possible replacement van, it was nice, but “not the one”.

The views on the road into Kendal were beautiful, and we stopped on the top of a hill for a photo in the fresh breeze.

After that, it was a short trip towards our next site, Thornbrook Barn in Thornton-in-Lonsdale, via Booths at Kirkby Lonsdale, where the makings of lunch, BBQ and healthy breakfast were had, we definitely wish there was a Booths near us, the food is great.

We found the site, and were on pitch 3, it is a massive pitch, and we set about putting up our awning, after Friday’s debacle we had a proper hammer, and honestly it was very quick to put up (less than a minute!) and then the task of battering in the pegs to the hard standing, didn’t take long, carpet down and big table out, and lunch was served out of the sun and breeze.

And a very tasty lunch it was too, helped by a Winton brewery “Oh ya bassa” raspberry sour beer, definitely recommended.

Cheese, bread, hummus, and scotch eggs, really tasty and we were definitely hungry.

After that lunch, we decided we needed a walk, so wandered across to the Country Harvest farm shop across the road from the site, some great looking food and beer in there, I felt a bit guilty for shopping in Booths, but we can shop there before we leave.

After that, we wandered into Ingleton, which is a pleasant 15minute walk, it was back to intermittent rain, sun and cloud, with the rain never coming to anything.

Stopped off for an ice cream at Seasons bakery and headed back to relax back at the site.

We sat in the shelter, and it acted as a great wind break, but when the rain came, it didn’t quite live up to expectations, I learned a fair bit tho’, we need a tunnel, and waterproof sides, so a proper awning is definitely in the future (there is a van connector for the Shelter, but it doesn’t fit our van.

It was a disappointment but, we learned from it.

We were’t particularly hungry, so we had a quiet 100th night in the van, amazing to think we’ve spent over 100 nights in the van in 23 months with all that’s happened in that time.
