Friday 7th June 2024
We arrived around 6:30pm after an easy drive down the M74 and along the A689 towards Haltwhistle.
When we arrived, it was windy and dry and I picked up a pre-ordered breakfast pack and BBQ pack.
We’d been to Herding Hill before, in November 2022, and the breakfast pack was one of the many highlights of the trip.
Before this trip I purchased a “Quest Screen House 4 Pro Shelter” to give us a bit of protection from wind and possible rain.
We tried valiantly to put up shelter, could not knock pegs into ground, easy to set up, it really is under 60 seconds, but it was not tied down properly and able to stand up to the wind.
Our peg set came with a rubber mallet, and hitting rock pegs into hard standing with one is not easy…
We gave up, wrapped up and stashed under van, on the upside, it’s easy to take back down too.
We cooked up BBQ pack in the van, our trusty Cadac pan came to the rescue out of the wind.
In the pack, there was a pork steak, lamb kebab, Haltwhistle sausage & steak burger.
Dinner was great, Gayle had made up potato salad and we had cheesy slaw leftover from last weekend’s family BBQ.
Ordered a metal peg hammer to supplement the soft rubber mallet, hopefully give us a bit more oomph, should pick it up in Haltwhistle on Saturday.
Sated from the dinner, we watched some TV, made up the bed and read ’til passing out.
