Auchenlarie Holiday Park

Friday 3rd May 2024

For the first time, we had consecutive weekends away, taking advantage of the early May bank holiday weekend.

It was a fairly long drive for a weekend away, down the M74 and then A701 and A75, through some very heavy rain.

All week I’d been hoping for some nice weather for this trip, and it looked like we’d get it, up until Friday, and then things turned, and at times the windscreen wipers could barely keep up with the rain.

We had received our pitch in advance, we were in the yellow touring section, E006 and (like the whole site) there was a significant slope towards the sea, we pitched up nose-in, and remarkably the van was level.

Quite a different pitch from most, with a very narrow asphalt (hard-standing) pitch, and grass instead of stones for pitching an awning.

We wandered around the site, the bad weather hadn’t quite reached Auchenlarie, so we wandered down to the on-site restaurant for a cold drink overlooking the Irish Sea, with the Isle of Man just visible on the horizon.

It started to rain a little bit, and we popped into the on-site restaurant, and I had a great burger, while Gayle opted for a mac and cheese, food was really tasty.

Back to the van after dinner, and we hauled our seats out for a bit of relaxation time, when the rain came back, in the panic to protect books from the rain and get my chair back into the van, I forgot about a can of beer in the pocket…ooops!

Sated from our dinner, we watched a bit of TV and then crashed!
