Saturday 25th November 2023
We set off on a bright cold late November morning, it’s only just over an hour to Moffat and the site’s very close to the centre of the town.
First things first, we headed to Mutchies Munchies for a soup and a sandwich, and it was great.
Moffat is the only site we’ve been to more than once, and this was our third time there, but first in 2023.
The site was pretty busy, I think the staff said it was either full or close to full on the Saturday night.
There was a pretty unusual looking caravan onsite…
We picked up a healthy dinner in the local Co-Op, settled down with a wee Crabbies and watched the Sandkings from the Outer Limits, I hadn’t seen the episode in a very long time, and this was the first time that George R.R. Martin meant anything (he wrote the story that it’s based on).
We slept really well, I woke up, and realised it was daylight outside, it was 8:25am and we had planned to walk to Beattock before the Moffat Xmas festivities got under way.
A quick porridge and coffee, and we wandered in the light drizzle to Beattock, it’s a nice walk, but not a lot to see.
The drizzle had stopped by lunchtime, and the Xmas market was getting under way, we quickly grabbed some bits and pieces, include some great pies, we were hungry so we popped back to the van for lunch (the cafes were mobbed).
We split the pies between us, a tasty Chicken and Chorizo pie, and a very nice pulled pork bun, along with a slightly bland mac and cheese pie.
Back into town for Santa and the lights turn on, with a wee mulled wine.
We had planned to eat in the Black Bull, but it turns out that it was closing for winter, so we managed to get a beer, but most places were closed by 6pm, so…it was a quick trip to the Chinese Takeaway for dinner, it was pretty cold tho’, but very pretty with the lights.
We were up early, and back home on Monday morning…because we were taking my mum to Keswick (not strapped to the van) on Tuesday!
