Yorkshire Summary 2023
We covered over 500 miles, visited five campsites, for ten nights.
Castlerigg Hall was the 44th and 45th nights away in the van in 2023.
My highlights of the trip were York and Masham, with Hawes close behind.
In particular the Food Festival made an already great York fantastic for us, and the Sheep Fair was a fascinating insight into Yorkshire life.
We did two “boat trips” on this journey, but didn’t get as much walking in as we wanted, mostly due to COVID exhaustion.
Castlerigg Hall is a great site, but I suspect we’ll return to Derwentwater sooner, because we like being so close to Keswick.
Carrying the Panda mattress topper back and forward within the van is hard work, might need to figure out something, it’s bulky and heavy, and making the bed up is becoming a chore.
Also, really starting to consider the benefits of an awning, especially as we get into the darker months, we certainly got away a number of times over the autumn/winter period last year, and we can see the benefits of being able to sit outside the van, but maybe protected from the rain a bit more than our rollout awning allows.
We’ve seen a couple of options on sites recently, will need to read some reviews, and do a bit of research as they’re not trivial purchases.
We’ll likely take a couple of weeks off, and head off somewhere fairly close by, as the early darkness reduces our travelling time.
