A launch on Derwentwater and Afternoon Tea

Monday 2nd October 2023

We got up and headed into Keswick, we’ve been coming to Keswick since 2014, and while we’ve been to a lot of places, Keswick is still up there as one of our favourites.

We were last here at the end of February, and it was bitterly cold, but really enjoyed it.

Despite having been here so often, we’d actually never been out on a boat on Derwentwater, so, after a light breakfast, we wandered down along the old train track into town, and then down to the lake and booked a tour.

We didn’t have to wait that long, and boarded the boat and enjoyed a 50 minute tour on slightly choppy water, we’d walked around the lake in late February, so it was interesting seeing it from a different perspective.

We will need to walk up Catbells at some point.

After that, we wandered to Brysons for their afternoon tea, not sure if we’re getting less hungry, or if it’s getting bigger, but this is the first time it beat us, and we had to take some bits in a box.

The ham sandwiches and plumb bread with chutney and cheese were the highlights, the sandwiches were so fresh.

Not cheap, but, honestly, worth it.

After that, we got the 555 back to the site, this time it was pretty busy with the school kids and fellow travellers, but we got there in one piece.

There was a pizza van visiting Castlerigg Hall, and we ordered a pizza for collection at 7:30pm, gonna be honest, we eat pizza regularly, and this was a really good pizza, sausage and “hot honey”, the honey was very lightly drizzled, and it was perfect.

Any more and it could’ve been overwhelming, but it was really, really good.
