Sunday 1st October 2023
We started the day with Gayle’s birthday and had breakfast at the Station Cafe on the site, it was very good, I had the toast and bavarian ham with fried eggs and a coffee, very tasty.
But the day was setting up for drizzling rain, so we packed up the van and headed up the M1 and along the M66.
We were staying at Castlerigg Hall, which has great views overlooking Derwentwater onto Cat Bells.
We walked into town, but it was late for lunch, we popped into Booths so that we would get something for dinner, and popped into the Kings Arms, but lunch was over.
We popped into the Skiddaw, and secured a tasty roast beef, it was pretty good, but not quite up to last week’s White Hart Inn.
We caught the 555 bus back up the hill.
One of the nice things about Castlerigg Hall is that there are tables besides the pitches, so we sat out reading until it got too cold.
