Arriving at York Rowntree

Wednesday 27th September 2023

Up early and light breakfast, packed up the van and headed to York, via the very pretty town of Knaresborough.

We stopped off in Knaresborough because we had some time before we could get into York Rowntree, wandered around the city centre, looked very nice.

We headed onto York, and arrived to a very full site at just after 1pm, got pitched up and headed into the city.

York Rowntree is a hard to get into site, especially at weekends, so we were happy to get booked in at all.

The city of York is beautiful, the mix of old and new, and the old street layout are really interesting to wander around.

We found our way to the Shambles, and then onto the York food festival, which was great!

We had lunch in one of the festival marquees, I had a great plate of raclette, potatoes and charcuterie, with a nice glass of white wine.

Gayle had a satay chicken bowl, Asian spiced fries and a pint of cider, apparently very nice too.

The marquee had several food stalls and a bar, and outside was lots more great food stalls.

While we were in there, it started to rain, but it dried up, and we headed for a walk along the old city walls, definitely worth the time.

We wandered the streets (and walls of York) ’til around 5pm, and wandered back to the site and it started to rain.

We arrived back and changed out of our wet clothes, had a wee break, and popped out to the nearest Co-Op to pick up an in-van vacuum because there was a lot of grass around inside.

Back to the van again, and cooked a light dinner from The Hedgecomber’s “One Pot Pasta” cookbook with fusili (instead of Orecchiette which we couldn’t find) and sweetcorn, very light and tasty.
