Callander Woods Holiday Park

Friday 14th July 2023

It’s not a long drive to Callander, but it was mostly in very heavy rain.

We arrived on site in time to order pizza from the on-site pizza stall, and set out to the nearby Esso station to pick up some essentials.

On the way back in, I was pleasantly surprised to meet my aunt and uncle, one of my dad’s younger brothers and his wife, I haven’t seen them since my dad’s funeral last year, so it was a nice surprise.

I dashed out of the van to grab the super tasty pizza, and we had a relaxing night with beer and cider and pizza and some TV.

The rain kept up into the morning, but died down enough, a quick breakfast of porage and we got our walking clothes on and wandered into Callander.

We earmarked Mhor for lunch, and headed off along the Rob Roy Way but the heavy rain threatened, and we chose to wander around some the closer walks to Callander, and this was sensible, as the rain came on very, very heavily more than once over the day.

We went to Mhor, and I got a beef, brie and chilli jam sandwich, and a banoffee blondie, and I gotta say, they were amazing.

The sandwich was on a nice chewy bread, the beef and chilli and brie and rocket on the sandwich were very tasty.

The texture and flavour of the banoffee blondie were great too, well worth the money.

Just before one of the very heavy downpours, we found our way into the Crown Hotel for a pint or two, this coincided with some of the heaviest rain of the day.

We grabbed some beer and cider from the Callander Drinks Company (great selection of local beers), and headed back to the van for some dinner.

In the early evening, the rain stopped, and the sun popped out for a nice evening.

We had dinner in the van, bratwursts in buns with onions and sauce, pretty good meal.

The site was nice, good location, the facilities seemed pretty good.

We headed into Callander for a bit of shopping before heading home to see my sister and the latest addition to the family!
